Shared Care/Joint Working

Home / Services / Shared Care/Joint Working

I will happily work in conjunction with other professionals and agencies, including CAMHS, therapists and GPs. My reports will make the treatment plan clear and we can arrange joint meetings /follow-ups if appropriate.

Please note that I cannot make a referral to the NHS mental health service directly. If you wish to be seen within the NHS please ask your GP for a referral. I will advise in my reports if I think your needs would be better served within the NHS system and support any transfer by providing comprehensive information

‘Shared care’ refers to an agreement between a specialist and a GP practice to ‘share’ the care for a condition. The agreement will cover the need for specialist reviews (6 monthly-yearly) and the GP will then usually agree to prescribe medication in between. This enhances convenience and reduces cost for patients, especially for those with ADHD as the medication and prescribing costs can mount up. It is the decision of the GP practice whether to accept shared care, and some practices have too high a workload to be able to do so. After you are stable on treatment, I will support shared care where possible.
